DSOTM Redux – Roger Waters Remakes Dark Side Of The Moon

I just caught wind of this last night. I’m not that plugged in. I was like “what?!”

Roger Waters is releasing a reimagined and re-recorded version of the album called “Dark Side Of The Moon REDUX”.

Just like Van Halen, there will be debate about is Pink Floyd really Pink Floyd without Roger Waters. Successful albums post Waters departing the band would say yes, I think my friend Mike E. (hi Mike!) would say yes… I’m not so sure.

No matter what your opinion of Roger Waters is, his hand in the greatest (again, my opinion) Pink Floyd albums that were released cannot be overstated. He was a driving force and probably deserved the angst that was thrown his way when the band was in their later years. I don’t deny that.

The feud between David Gilmour and Roger seems endless.

Now Roger has re-recorded Dark Side of The Moon, without the other guys. Read an article below for more details and watch the included video with Roger discussing the album.

The first video is out and I watched it last night before I went to bed. It’s to say the least, different.

Love it or hate it, it’s Roger’s take on the song.

The comments on this video are exactly what you would expect: complaints about messing with a good thing, with a few supporting Roger, or at least his right to remake the songs he wrote however he damn well pleases.

When I got up today I listened to the track again. Did I like it? Was the novelty momentary? In the light of day did it still seem work?

I have to admit I really like it. I have loved Roger Waters and his work with Pink Floyd and beyond (“Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking” anyone?) and I’m more excited for this than yet another live version of “The Wall”.

You can pre-order it in a rainbow of colors and get your own copy when it comes out on October 6th. I opted for the Amazon Exclusive LP, which I believe is on violet colored though the pic on Amazon looks black.

The cover shows the original cover artwork reflected in a dog’s eye.

I think it’s appropriate to not splash the original art all over the place since this is an interpretation. Seems to hint but not overpower. I like it.

So hate it/love it… it’s coming. I will nestle it right in next to my Floyd and Waters albums where it will live quite happily.
