Is It Memorabilia?

I’ve gotten a lot of souvenirs and memorabilia from shows in years gone by. I’ve gotten set lists, guitar picks, autographs, drum sticks and show posters… all carefully preserved and most documented here on this site.

The other day I was cleaning up my office and gathered my things from seeing Alice Cooper, and I began to wonder a bit about the things that I came home with from that night.

First up was the flag that someone handed out that we could wave during the song “Elected”.

I waved the hell out of this during that song. I even got a shot of our row waving them all. It was cool. If Alice Cooper had handed them out of course, that would be different, but just someone nice who was a fan and fellow show goer that night that knew that they would be great during that song handed them out. Still cool right?

Then there was the confetti gun. I didn’t get a great shot of that at the show, but my buddy Shawn sent me one that I think is pretty detailed. During “Billion Dollar Babies” one of Alice’s characters came to the front of the stage and shot a confetti gun. He points it over the crowd and fires.

Kapow. What looks like paper money and coins shoots out.

I think some lucky few get a hold of printed Alice Cooper money. I see you can get it on E-bay, but what drifted in our direction was simple confetti. Here is what I grabbed.

Not as spectacular, but still, from the show. I greedily stuffed it in my pocket.

I also got a pick, but that came right from Roxie the guitar player and by all standards IS memorabilia. But…

What about one of the giant balloons? At Alice Cooper shows there are giant balloons sent out into the crowd.

These get tossed around and if they get sent back towards the stage, Alice makes a spectacle of stabbing and popping them. There was one that was drifting very close to us and while it was overhead it burst. The balloon shrapnel landed near me and of course… I scooped it up.

Complete with scary giant zip-tie.

As I have been writing this I grudgingly have decided that I better keep them. I don’t know that they rise to the level of true memorabilia, but, they do remind me of the show, and I guess that’s all that counts.
