Dalton came for an afternoon of a gentleman’s battle of wits on the chess board and some inevitable album playing and music exchange. He came bearing gifts.

He discovered some vinyl in his vaults and decided they would have a good life with me.

First up. Flipper.

This band was evidently one of Kurt Cobain’s (R.I.P.) favorite bands. We cranked it up on the record player and jammed to the grungy dirge that is Flipper. It was good. They have quite a history.

Then came a pair of Cynics 45’s!

The first was “No Place To Hide / Hard Times”

The Cynics were first introduced to me by Dalton. This brought back good times. I spent a solid month listening to the tape of “The Cynics – Blue Train Station” that Dalton gave me.

There is a PITIFUL amount of information on the Wikipedia page for The Cynics. Ugh.

This band had a huge influence on me. I was just coming off of a late 80’s big hair / grunge fest and this fit perfectly. Fast and rocking without being overly broody and angst filled. Just great music. I wish I had had a chance to see them. Dalton saw them at Club De Wash.   The Blowpops?

The other Cynics 45 was “Way It’s Gonna Be Now / Roadrunner”.

Woo hoo! The blue 45 is actually a Fan Club Single.

Dalton doesn’t remember specifically being in that, but he was a hard core catalog/record label/information requester. He sent letters and requests to lots of ads in Spin and Rolling Stone and other magazines and got a slew of band stickers and singles and other interesting stuff. His laptop is covered in band stickers. Way cool.

I recommend The Cynics. 5 stars. Get yourself some.

Maybe even some Flipper.

You will not regret it.
