I very rarely get caught up in hyped pre-released singles, preferring to wait for the full release. Nor do I stalk band websites for any morsel of news that they may drop about current projects.
I learned my lesson with The English Beat’s seemingly endless project that I crowdfunded and later became the “Here We Go Love”, which is a great album, but getting weekly updates for over a year was something I was not used to. It was a little much. Also, with The Smashing Pumpkins themselves I can point to “Teargarden By Kaleidyscope”. This was a hyped project that started strong and then fizzled, sort of. There will be a whole post on that soon.
At any rate yesterday I noticed that Billy had just started a live feed. Normally I don’t see those until the feed is over, but clicked on it out of sheer chance.
It turned out that Billy was making an announcement about The Smashing Pumpkins. It’s probably all over the internet now, but see my first paragraph, I wouldn’t know it.
He was announcing it live so that the message wouldn’t be morphed as it was reported around the inter-webs. I just happened to tune in live.
Billy announced that The Smashing Pumpkins (with new album “Cyr” already set to be released in November! … yes I have pre-ordered) that they were also working on a 33 track album that is a continuation of both “Melancholy And The Infinite Sadness” AND “Machina / The Machines Of God”. That is awesome in itself. Billy stated that the Zero character narrative will continued in the new album. Thirty-three new tracks! He also talked about touring, with special guest involved. This of course when the pandemic is not an issue any longer.
But wait there’s more!
They also are working on completing what would be follow up and conclusion of the trilogy of albums that include “SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN” (an unwieldy title at best) and “Cyr”. So the creative juices are flowing and there is a lot of content coming for Smashing Pumpkins fans.
As a matter of professional courtesy for you my dear reader I link to the NME article that reiterates my tale, in case you need it from a reputable source.
Smashing Pumpkins announce sequel to ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ and ‘Machina’
And as a true bonus… here is the YouTube video of Billy himself.
I am patiently waiting for my vinyl copy of “Cyr” and looking forward to even MORE Smashing Pumpkins to come in the future!
Rock on Billy.
