How I Single-Handedly Saved (almost all) of Paul McCartney and Wings

So since my trip to Frugal Muse West where I purchased “Wings – Venus And Mars” I have had that itch in me to go get the rest. They were not cheap though and I had my doubts that they were still there anyway, but, I gathered books and some video games and set out to sell them and buy the Paul and Wings forlornly languishing on the Frugal Muse shelf.

Sigh.

First stop, Pre-Played to sell the games.

Of course I had to hang out while they looked through my stuff. And of course I had to look in the records. It was funny. There was even a bigger expansion in there now. They had a cart with 3 bins on top and 3 on the bottom wheeled into the room. So 6 more bins of records. There was a group of 3 “kids” and one older guy my age already rummaging. The kids were cracking me up, shouting out their finds to the others. “Frehley’s Comet dude!” “Oh! Alice Cooper!” “Check out this Zappa!”            (“2oo Motels” for $29.99 – not gonna happen. That one is not my favorite)

In truth, that’s what it sounds like in my head most of the time I’m in the bins, I just keep it to myself.

I found 2 while I was waiting.

“The Rolling Stones – Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out”

2013-06-23 11.19.14

I had heard this one before and I knew it was good. For only $2.99, low priced for Pre-Played I had to get it. This is The Stones after the early stuff and before the 70’s stuff. Comfortably in the middle.

I also found guess what? The reason for my trip. Wings!

“Wings – Red Rose Speedway”

2013-06-23 11.19.35

This one also included the entire booklet inside, which I knew the one at Frugal Muse did not.

2013-06-23 11.19.47

How about that for fortuitous?

Then I headed to Frugal Muse.

Would the Paul and Wings still be there? Answer?… YES! I traded my books straight up for the following:

“Paul McCartney – McCartney”

2013-06-23 11.33.06

“Paul McCartney – Ram”

2013-06-23 11.33.24

“Wings – Band On The Run”

2013-06-23 11.33.47

I have seen this cover probably a million times. I did not realize until today that all these people were not members of Wings. From the Wiki:

The cover photo was taken on 28 October 1973 by photographer Clive Arrowsmith against the gable end wall of the stable block in Gunnersbury Park. It depicts the now iconic view of Paul, Linda and Denny plus six other well-known people dressed as convicts caught in the spotlight of a prison searchlight. They are:

Michael Parkinson (chat-show host and journalist)

Kenny Lynch (actor, comedian and singer)

James Coburn (actor)

Clement Freud (columnist, gourmet, raconteur, Member of Parliament, Just a Minute panellist and grandson of Sigmund)

Christopher Lee (actor)

John Conteh (Liverpool boxer who later became World Light-Heavyweight

I KNEW that James Coburn looked too old to be in the group. HOW did I not ever notice before. Wow. I’m glad I looked that up. Very cool.

“Wings – Wings At The Speed Of Sound”

2013-06-23 11.33.56

“Wings – Back To The Egg”

2013-06-23 11.34.04

The only ones I am missing now are “London Town” (which I have seen) and “Wild Life” (which I have never seen).

That was quite a Paul McCartney and Wings haul.

There were 2 bonus albums too!

“Traffic – John Barleycorn Must Die”

2013-06-23 11.34.12

This one is a classic, and I have had it before.

“Johnny & Edgar Winter – Together”

2013-06-23 11.34.20

This one I have never seen before, but can you really go wrong with either Winter? No. You can’t.

That was it for purchases.

I know Jeff will be proud that I liberated so many McCartney’s and Wings albums.
