Dan Collins And A Piano – Nonpronto – Waunafest – Oh My! (Part 2)

In my entire recollection I do not recall a nicer night of weather than last night at any single Waunafest ever. Usually I am melting and miserable in the heat. We made our way to the beer tent and I could hear the music from outside. I was looking in the tent but couldn’t see a stage. I was remembering the old days of the “entertainment” tent in our backyard and a stage being in there for the talent shows and performances.

Under this tent, Nonpronto was set up in the corner. Drums, bass, and Dan on his keyboard. It seemed surprisingly simple for a setup, but, the music they were making, pumping from those little speakers was great!

They were protected from foul ball territory. Softball was happening on both sides of the tent. Hence the metal mesh fence.

After securing some Bud Light’s, we tried a few vantage spots and ended up at a picnic table right near the band. So is that stage right, or left. I never knew which perspective that was from, the band/actors or the audience. At any rate we were right down front.

They sounded great. The music lover in me of course was like stop all the racket from the softball games somebody! I was likely outnumbered in that crowd.

They played some great stuff, crowd pleasers if you will. Stevie Wonder, Daft Punk!, Joe Cocker, Elton John, and at one point Dan’s mom tipped him $10 to play “Sweet Home Alabama”. Classic. I dug it.

I got a kick out of how Dan played, his hands working almost like the keyboard was a drum. It looked like he was using the palm of his hand sometimes.

The music was great and the night was cool and comfortable. The perfect storm.

At the break I caught Dan and introduced myself (as Michael, Max Thompson’s dad) and bought the new CD.

and in typical fashion, asked to have it signed. I’m such a music nerd.

Sorry if I blinded you with the flash!

Hope to see you next year at Lucky’s or under the tent again.

Keep making music!
