As a matter of historical fact I was planning on tagging COVID-19 in my blog at some point to pinpoint it in my timeline, however… I have a real tie in now.
Behold my ticket for the Silversun Pickup’s show at The Sylvee in Madison or March 22nd. I was online minutes after they went on sale with a pre-sale code and excitement in my fingers.
I was stoked. The new album “Widow’s Weeds” is awesome and this show was going to be my second time to The Sylvee where Cindy and I saw Smashing Pumpkins. Double stoked.
Then came the days of COVID-19.
I heard several local venues were talking about extra precautions and playing it day by day about the decision to continue.
On March 12th after work I posted this on my Instagram.
Alas… a bit later… (the timestamps are from my phone screenshots)
The matter was taken out of the hands of The Sylvee. SSPU took steps.
There is a ray of hope though. Otis forwarded me this…
So, it is going to be rescheduled and not just cancelled altogether. That is good news. Let’s hope when it DOES get rescheduled I will be able to go.
Though I’m bummed that the show will not be happening next weekend I applaud SSPU’s stand and hope that every small stand against the spread of COVID-19 is worth it and some day we can attend shows again without having to see hand sanitizer sold alongside concert shirts, CD’s and beer at the merch table.
Stay healthy!
I work in ticketing. I’ve been busier this week than any other time. All indoor eventsover 100 and outdoor events over 500 (so, basically everything) are cancelled until around easter… hard times are ahead for the music industry. many smaller promoters won’t be able to recover from this.
Yeah. The collateral damage from all this is going to be serious for some who may never even GET sick. Everyone needs to take care of each other. It will eventually pass. The show will go on. 😉
